What Services are Travellers looking for?

You may have read our post on what travellers look for when they travel, and wondered "well what services should I provide?".

Although it may sound odd, travellers do put up with a lot in order to obtain a nice vacation. There is the entire hassle of air travel, visa approvals, communiting, language, day-night shift, and enivronmental changes. It's a lot for anyone to deal with in a short amount of time, and despite what most businesses promise, it is rarely a smooth processes.

That is why we repeatedly stress on the importance of smooth service, whatever that service might be. Regardless of what a traveller does, they expect it to be worth the hassle it took to get to their destination. They paid for a vacation.

As a service providers, travel and tourism business have to uphold their promises to their customers. Whatever you advertise better be available for the traveller. For example, if a luxury hotel is advertising clean beds with a Jacuzzi in the walk-in bathroom, then it should be there, clean and functioning for the traveller. It may seem obvious, but many times travellers arrive to learn their room is not ready or some product/feature is not available because it's broken, not in season, or some third reason. In each case, the failure to deliver your marketed promise is a negative tick against your business.

Another important feature of any service provider is polite and accommodating staff. Of course, not all travellers are kind and so the motto of the 'customer always comes first' is said within reason. However, within that reason, travellers expect staff to assist them throughout their vacation. They expect the front desk to be polite and accommodating within reason. If the hotel has a concierge, the traveller expect them to be there and knowledgeable about the area and have reasonable contacts with local restaurants, merchants and entertainment venues. Honestly and transparency is also very important. Honest referrals and testimonials will guide most travellers when they make a final decision. Even if they are receiving a paid referral, the traveller expects what they hear to live up to the hype. In addition to trust, security comes to play. If a tourist hires a tour guide or book a tour, they expect a well-experience and informed individual who can communicate with the traveller and is trustworthy.

At the end of the day, whatever the traveller invests into the vacation, they expect to receive in turn. As a business, it is important to ensure that your services live up to what you promise.
